STEP 2 : IDENTIFY PROBLEM AND PROBLLEM ANALYSIS

IDENTIFY PROBLEM

1. While we are talking about sexual harassment, the main problem that can happen is sexual harassment can happen anywhere.

2. Sexual harassment is a form of crime that has a clear visible medium when committing it and has no clear visible medium when committing it.

3. Eyes wink, a reflection of the eyes, words and the act of holding a particular area of the limb is an example of how sexual harassment can occur. All such acts have no concrete medium which means that sexual harassment can occur undetected by the victim or can be detected by the victim.

4. There are four main types of sexual harassment that commonly can happen which are verbal, physical, non-verbal, and visual.

5. For the type of verbal, it usually happens in form of a message or text while non-verbal is a form of sexual harassment that apply orally. Physical sexual harassment usually happens when a person is touched involuntarily in his or her private area of the body. Sending inappropriate pictures or displaying objects that make a person feel that he or she is being harassed sexually in the type of visual sexual harassment.

6. The existence of these four types of sexual harassment, it can happen anywhere without people around realizing that sexual harassment is happening around them because it happens in silence.

7. According to the statistic, the highest type of sexual harassment that commonly occurs is verbal sexual harassment with the percentage of 77% compared to men followed by physical sexual harassment where the victim is usually being harassed by the perpetrator with unwelcomed sexual touching with the percentage 51% compared to men.

8. Verbal sexual harassment with 34% compared to women and cyber-sexual harassment with 22%.

9. Factor of sexual harassment are motivation, overcoming internal inhibitions against harassment, overcoming eternal inhibitions against harassment, and overcoming victim resistance:

i) Motivation dimension examines the variables which originate from the victim that could serve as a motivator for the harasser.

ii) Overcoming internal inhibitions against harassment the factor refers to the values, such as morality and sympathy, of the harasser.

iii) Overcoming external inhibitions against harassment is a factor present in the working environment that could contribute to sexual harassment in the workplace.

iv) Overcoming victim resistance is a factor that refers to the ability of a victim to recognize and in turn stop any behaviour towards harassment. The related variables are sex-role and the job status of the victim.

PROBLEM ANALYSIS

1. What is worrying here is, sexual harassment is a silent crime that can happen anywhere.

2. The scope of sexual harassment does not only limit to the workplace but also in public such as public transportations, public parks, restaurants, and supermarkets. This is because sexual harassment does not have any solid medium like the other crime and harassment.

3. These four factors usually can be detected in our workplace:

For example, our colleagues can sexually harass us by doing verbal sexual harassment.   Our colleagues can say words that make us sexually unsafe such as mentioning the private part of our body. They also can do non-verbal sexual harassment by looking into the private parts of one’s body with a lustful look.

4. Sexual harassment also can occur on rank factors in the workplace. For example, among the boss and the workers. This is an example of an unprofessional workplace.

5. Regarding job status, it is hypothesized that women employees who hold lower positions with less power and authority are more likely to experience sexual harassment.

6. Women who are physically attractive will be more likely to experience sexual harassment compared to those who are less attractive.

7. Hence the absence of good values could be a contributory factor to sexual harassment.

8. Certain male workers would thus be tempted to establish social or sexual relationships with their female co-workers or give unwanted sexual attention.

9. Sexual harassment does not have any solid medium like the other crime and harassment.

10. An individual with low moral values may not regard harassment as seriously wrong or immoral, and thus feels uninhibited from sexually harassing someone else.
